Difficult But Worth the Challenge
It was a very paperwork intense challenge to develop this loan since the VA has apparently made it even tougher for veterans to receive a VA Loan, but the interest rate provided by FBC Mortgage and the zero down, made the extra effort worth the challenge.
John's Tip: If you are veteran and decide on a VA Loan, be prepared for an intense scrutiny of your personal and financial profile, which can only be satisfied with a lot of paperwork.

FBC Mortgage Review
Pros: John was very friendly and professional. His assistant, Alison Friend, was quite knowledgeable and responded to all questions in a timely manner. Cons: Overall experience wasn't as good as previous experiences with FBC. There was very little proactive communication after the initial set up and back office operations didn't set correct timing expectations of loan process (ex. told a 48 hour underwriting process which took 2 weeks before we heard next steps). Very little support in regards to interest rate movement.

My First Home
I was extremely nervous when I decided to buy a home. I have never made a purchase of this magnitude. Before I decided to build I called other banks and I really didn't feel helped throughout the process. I then decided to build a home and was referred to FBC. From my very first interaction I felt comfortable and confident that going with FBC was a great choice. Jonathan was very knowledgeable and the rest of the team guided me through the process. They truly made this a painless process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase a home.

What a trial!
I have only minor issues with Marcos Rivera and Juan Arias, although they managed to lose or mis-request items on occasion. The real problem was with the nit-picking of the person(s) (unnamed) who had to approve the loan. Some of the material they requested was absurd. Why would anyone be concerned with a $50 balance on a credit card (having paid entire owed amount every month for years!) when evaluating our suitability for a $450,000 loan? The whole process started in August 2018 and did not get completed until 4pm the afternoon before closing at 11 am the next morning! It took so long the credit checks and paperwork had to be resubmitted several times. Why? We were assured several times that our income and credit worthiness was not in question. Sadly, we were practically forced to use FBC by the lender. A $30 K credit towards upgrades was dependent on our choosing FBC or one of two other mortgage companies. The builder did not tell us about the other companies until we complained about FBC more than two months into the mortgage process.

First Time Homeowner Jitters
I dragged my feet a very long time about making this purchase commitment. My Dad recently transitioned to the final stage of Alzheimer's and Dementia and desire to be closer to my family overcame all my procrastination. On October 11 I filled out the loan application for a brand new Maronda Home and on November 30 I had the keys to my 1st and brand new house! Timing was critical to make this process and endeavor successful and Molly Colby and Carolina Ortega exceeded my or anyone's expectations. They helped me do this in less than 60 days!!!!!! It helped that I was prompt to answer requests for documentation but this blessing is attributed to my blind faith in God, Maronda Homes and FBC Mortgage. My Dad and Mom and my entire family are truly greatful - THANK YOU
