Kristen was very helpful, enthusiastic, and personable throughout the beginning and middle of the process. Toward the end, when it was getting more stressful for me due to trying to make sure I was meeting all timelines, she seemed to disappear. I had to reach out to her to ask questions I could only guess at. Was not prepared when finding a title company in Ohio which delayed the closing a couple of days. Not a big deal in the larger scheme of things, but still stressful for a first time home buyer, out of state purchaser and senior citizen. I have not been informed as to when and how I will be receiving final documents. Other than this review, FBC has fallen off the face of the earth when it comes to keeping me informed.

I refinanced during a pandemic
When we started our refi in March we had no idea the world was going to basically close for business. I thought the loan process would stop too. But I was wrong. Jeff and everyone at FBC worked through the craziness to keep out refinance on schedule. We appreciated all of their hard work.

Jim has an automated system the generates "personalized" emails. I have been receiving these since he handled my original home loan 5 years ago. They kept him top of mind and thus I went back to him for a refinance. Unfortunately, when it comes to REAL personalized communication, Jim falls way short. It was difficult to get information from him in a timely manner. And eventually I stopped hearing from him and was past off to a very capable assistant, Stephanie, who did a much better job of keeping me informed.
John's Tip: Turn off the automated bullshitty emails especially when I am an actual client. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for a response on an email and receiving two emails from you that are automated before I get a response on the real email that I sent.

Additional clarification is never wasted on a customer. I used to work in the mortgage business and knew much of the process. That is not the same with most clients I suspect. I never heard that there was an additional lock fee or that the rate lock needed to be extended. There was never communication of a deadline in that sense. I also heard that rates had gone up despite hearing that the Fed rate at dropped about 1%. I think that relationship deserves clarification to keep your client informed. Spending thousands of dollars on one's most valuable asset deserves better and more thorough communication.
