ZERO departmental communication
First, I'd like to say that coastal as a whole is not bad. There were plenty of really pleasant, and helpful people that were apart of the process. I would like to highlight my experience with Jorge though. As a first time home buyer, I genuinely had zero clue what to expect going into to this. I am incredibly thankful to have had as incredible of a realtor as I did, otherwise I am not sure I would have closed on the house. To give you background, I am a serious credit challenge, just barely being above the FHA minimum score but I was assured we could get this done. I was skeptical from day one but Jorge worked to get the approval, but honestly thats really where his excellence stopped. Upon approval I was told I would need the FHA 3.5%, along with 2mo reserve. Now the other thing, was i was also told my exact closing date wouldn't matter so I originally planned for May 15th. Things get singed and next thing you know, they are looking for me to close April 15th. Being 1400+ miles away that wasnt an option. I fought tooth and nail to get the closing date moved with no additional cost incurred and finally they moved it to April 30th. From there we fast forward to a week before closing where I still had no clue what my rough cash to close was going to be. We narrowed it down to a specific figure and i went with that. As we got to a day or two before closing I recieved the official closing statements which just did not make any sense. What should have been about 13k, was all of a sudden 19k for my cash due at closing. At this point I've given a 3k deposit on the house (holiday builders) and paid a non refundable appraisal. I finally get the paperwork revised to show the 13k cash to close. THE DAY of closing, I wired the funds (13k minus 3k deposit given a month prior). I received a frantic call from the title company because I didnt send the full 13k. I explained the deposit situation and was told to take it up with holiday and coastal. The morning of closing, my realtor, myself and Jorge had a phone call where I explained I did not have an extra 3k ON TOP of everything I gave, just for them to give me a check back at the closing table. Jorge's exact words were "then this is a moot point, and we simply cannot close" just like that. My amazing realtor took the bulls by the horns, and got them to release my deposit so I could use it for closing. I am sure there are wonderful loan officers within coastal but Jorge just is not it. This process must have taken 10 years off my life due to the constant stress, miscommunication and ever changing figures.
Jason's Tip: Work with literally anyone but Jorge. Everyone but him was such a pleasure to work with. From the backend team, to the actual construction/sales rep team, he was the only issue, and a massive one at that.
